Beginning to wonder if they're putting off the announcement until the CSU52 negotiations are complete so that they don't have this big pot of money suddenly provided. Especially if, as stated back in the thread, a large portion of the money would go back more or less into the general budget.

Apparently it's because it is so hard to schadeule an announcement with either the Prime Minister or Minister Fraser - Sohi wants either or for the announcement as that is what other cities have got so far.

I know it had been mentioned it would pay for some previous zoning bylaw renewal but is this going to be used for incentives...? Supportive housing...? Building housing on City lands...?

The main criteria were to:
1. improve processes to expedite approvals
2. update zoning/Land Use Bylaws to expand the potential of housing across communities
3. find new and creative ways to deliver near/non-market housing in various communities
4. remove red tape
5. delivery housing units, period
Edmonton was ahead of the curve on much of this (kudos) and so they were negotiating retroactive considerations

Family, Social Supports and Housing
Housing affordability is a top priority of the government. In line with Stronger
Foundations — Alberta’s 10-year strategy to improve and expand affordable
housing supply and housing supports, the 2024 Capital Plan allocates
$829 million over three years — an increase of $355 million, or 75 per cent,
from Budget 2023 — to fund projects that enhance affordable housing and
social supports in various locations around the province. Together with CMR
funding, almost $1 billion is being allocated to seniors’ facilities and housing.
Key projects supported include:
•
$405 million, including $75 million in new funding, for the Affordable
Housing Partnership Program, to support the goal to create 13,000
affordable housing units.
•
$130 million, including $125 million in new funding, for the Seniors Lodge
Modernization Program to ensure lodges continue to be a viable housing
option for Alberta seniors.
•
$91 million for the Affordable Housing Strategy, to fund the maintenance
of government-owned social housing buildings.
•
$75 million for the Indigenous Housing Capital Program, including
$30 million in new funding to Indigenous communities to construct,
purchase, or redevelop housing for Indigenous peoples in need.

- The province is committing $840 million over three years in the 2024 budgetfor 5,000 more affordable housing units. Building housing for the future
If Budget 2024 passes, its capital plan would invest $840 million over three years to provide more than 5,000 affordable housing units and support more than 6,000 jobs.
