LRT Safety

What is using TW really going to do? Yes, there are dirty people using LRT. What are they going to do? Tell them to take a shower? Lol.

More Churchill Connectors and less Bay Enterprise Square hallways. It's also why I'm eager for Parks Phase II to start since I remember seeing a new entrance for Corona as part of their plans.

Also less half-assed-renovated LRT entrances

@trevorhayden You can report a variety of bylaw infractions, crimes, and behavioural issues to Transit Watch. Open drug use, harassment of other riders/customers, being passed out/asleep within a fare payment zone, littering, people in need of medical attention for any reason.

Being "dirty" wouldn't be a reason to make a report to Transit Watch, but the very common harassment of women would be a great reason.

I think some natural light from the South/SE would really help this entrance.

Also, I think the underground retail booths have been a failed experiment. It would probably be better if some of these booths were demolished to provide better sight lines.

A lot of this is because King Thunderbird Centre hasn't opened yet. When it opens, most of the trouble will end.
I dearly wish that was true. It will help a fair bit but there will still be alot of issues.

Even when King Thunderbird opens we will have gone from 4 drop in centers in the core to 1. The number of people on the street has increased fourfold since the original Boyle Street closed. And the housing market rise has decimated the bottom of the market, there are no places to house people straight from the street.

King Thunderbird will make a positive impact, but the problem is way too big for any one organization to end. Only the province has the power and resources to make a real dent.

Its been a tough 5 years, but with the supposed increase in transit/LRT use back to or exceeding pre COVID levels, maybe now it is time to make a bit more effort to fill these retail spaces again.

Don't know what's going on lately but Churchill Connector has been BAD with loitering, people making a mess and just not fun behaviour in the mornings lately. There's some peace officer presence in the morning, but there needs to be some permanent staff there like ambassadors or a food cart to take up the space. I'm fine walking past them but it visibly makes Churchill Connector uninviting, despite the large amount of people taking transit now.

On the plus side, Corona has been much nicer in comparison, especially that entrance to First Financial Place.

The repair and modification of this entrance at Corona seems to have helped reduce the build up of loiterers in that area and there seems to be more enforcement here lately too.

Homeless population went from 3k to 5k in 1 year!

Alright someone out there must be reading this thread lol because Churchill is now consistent with its Peace Officer presence. The sheer amount of people now really makes it feel safer, really excited to see how different the LRT feels like a year from now if we continue to raise ridership numbers.

Yeah TPO presence on downtown stations, especially Churchill has been consistent every day I've been taking transit. It's pretty interesting seeing some of the COTT teams as well when they're doing their patrols.

Does anyone know if EPS actually does do transit patrol? I've seen them twice in the last few months both in downtown and in the Valley Line, sometimes with TPOs but I'm not sure if that was just a one time event.
