Londonderry Mall

Londonderry Mall was quite busy today for obvious reasons.

I'm hoping Zellers' renewed success at Londonderry can inspire some empty CRUs in this mall to fill up.

2nd level above Zellers still appears empty.

Evident in photos is the casual clothing element that I mentioned as being a key component for a downtown Zellers store.
Yes, there is also a huge gap in retail downtown and elsewhere for that. The other bigger suburban style malls are mostly focused on fashion and more upscale stores.

I don't see Zellers lasting 6 months. Doesn't really differentiate from established affordable apparel and housewares competitors like Walmart, Superstore, Winners/Homesense, Giant Tiger, and even Simons. The store even somehow looks more dismal than Walmart.

What gap are they filling in the market? How will they differentiate or steal customers away from the stores they already shop at? I don't think they have an answer to any of that.

I took a quick walk through Zellers the other day. To call this Zellers is disrespectful to the brand. It's not even close to what a Zellers was. It's basically a hastily thrown together store filled with cheap quality, overpriced clothing and some houseware stuff. No effort or money spent on decor or aesthetics. Zellers was a proper department store, this is not even close. I agree with @supaflyryguy - I'd be surprised if this lasts longer than 6 months

I honestly think that EVERYONE who lined up and has been hankering for Zellers was thinking it would have a Club Z Cafe....that is the CRUX of the nostalgia for this brand....
