Jasper Avenue New Vision / Imagine Jasper Avenue

So in that photo I referenced, they will lay the asphalt on top of the cement?
Ah, yes, from the photo it looks like concrete. I'm assuming the concrete is there because it's a bus stop location and needs the better base. One lift of asphalt to go on top of the concrete and up flush with the curb and gutter. My best guess.

One lift of asphalt for a year or two - lets any settlement show - then top lift of asphalt levels out any of that minor settlement. Or they might do top lift over the whole width of the road this year, after they have finished bottom lift on the south side.
A year or two? Do you think Walterdale Hill Road might get that last lift before we lose the base layer and sub base?

Yeah, not sure what happened with that contract. If it couldn't be completed by the original contractor I don't know why the City didn't use the money to tender it and have a different contractor complete it. Strange one.

Jasper Ave west of 116 St looks almost ready to be reopened when I drove down earlier today. Didn't get a good look at the section east of 116 St but the sidewalk construction and the 114 St sewer construction is still ongoing. I think they could wrap up construction by November 1 if the weather co-operates.

Almost done - should be fully reopen within a day or so.

Two more construction seasons to go and Jasper Ave from 109-124st will have a much needed refresh. But Avenue has a long way to go before it has a proper mainstreet feel with so many disjointed buildings and empty, lifeless gaps.

To be fair, this is a quite long street around 40 blocks through our downtown and central areas. So different sections have a different feel to them and were developed or redeveloped as they have shifted between being residential, commercial, retail and industrial over the decades.

There are still a few breaks between them, some of which have been mostly filled in over the years such as 109 Street to 111 Street and some such as 114 to 116 that will probably be redeveloped sometime in the near future.
