Jasper Avenue New Vision / Imagine Jasper Avenue

Changing the road to eliminate the boulevard eliminated the trees. The new trees would be planted in soil cells and hopefully grow quite fast. See 108 Street as an example.

We are going to probably loose mature trees along 105 Street when they redo Beaver Hills House Park as well. I have real mixed feelings about this. If the trees are approaching the end of their life, putting new trees in soil cells makes sense at the time of renewal, because that only happens ever 40 or so years. However, we are going to loose a lot of greenery and new trees Downtown have been decimated by the street population in terms of vandalism.

I do feel we are too quick to remove older trees. They are probably better able to withstand climate conditions, neglect and vandalism than newly planted trees that are likely very vulnerable especially in the first few years.

Looks like they are adding continuous crossings on the next phase of imagine Jasper. Page was recently updated:

"Utility relocation will begin later this year and road construction will begin in 2025. Construction is anticipated to take 3 years to complete."

Exciting. Not to be dramatic but I genuinely think this will make a major impact in activating Jasper Ave along west Wihkwentowin and it cannot come fast enough.

What are they saying is the next phase?

There is no link to the Imagine Jasper Ave page from the City-run Project & Plans > Downtown section of the COE website.
Someone has dropped the ball. Surprised?

Love this. Looks like raised crosswalks along the north and south sides of Jasper Ave - probably from 116 st west.

Anything is better than the mess frpm 112th west. Too bad the city has killed jasper avenue since the first days of the LRT construction...
A good part of what continues to kill Jasper Avenue is the inordinate amount of time it takes to actually complete things.

That means this 10 block long project will take roughly four and a half years (!!!!) from now until construction is finished and that’s if it finishes on time.

For perspective, it only took 12 months longer than that to complete the 1,150 km Trans Mountain Pipeline construction twinning from the County of Strathcona to Burnaby.
