General Infill Discussion

Was out along Fairway drive area last night, Holy crap is there a lot of construction. a good 1/4 of the lots have fences around them or are new homes. Big ugly beasts. Why do people, when they have money build these monster square soulless boxes.

Because they can and they mistakenly believe a lot of space in itself is impressive. Unfortunately there is not always a correlation between taste and money and we do not have many older examples of grand design to follow.

Cause a certain demographic needs 12 bedroom homes to house 4 generations of their families in there…..

Clarke is pretty balanced IMO and when we were knocking on doors he appreciated the quality, well-designed, well situated infill just like the rest of us.

BUT, similar to me, he was not overly pleased with the mid-block monsters.

I'd say that he will bring a balanced opinion on this topic.

Same with Parmar. She seems to have a solid basis of understanding regarding why we need infill, but also needs to represent the opinions she hears in her ward. I will say I was surprised to see her vote against the Grovenor upzoning.

From what I'm seeing, we don't really have a strong "anti-infill at all costs" councillor tbh. Principe is just a constant objector on a lot of things so I can't really consider her one.

The Overton window on infill in Edmonton is quite different from Calgary or Toronto. I mean the closest thing we have to a debate is a reduction from 8 to 6plexes, rather than a complete repeal of the zoning bylaw.
