General Food & Dining Thread

With 2 locations it would be tough. I can see him wanting to step back.

Whoever the new owners of Jack's Burger Shack will be, I hope the one change they'll make is opening the downtown location on Saturdays during the summer. I'll never understand why they failed to do this, given that the farmers market is practically next door.
I agree, but they were open on Saturdays originally but eventually scaled down to just Mondays-Fridays. Evidently they didn't find Saturdays to be worthwhile.

COVID really led them to that.

Went to May on Saturday, Overall not a bad meal. Don't know the cost since I didn't have to pay. But had no problem getting a reservation late. Place was quite quiet only about 5 tables at 6:30. But will go back. Would like to try it for brunch.

Went to O'Byrnes downtown after the game on Saturday. Maybe it was the cold, but place was pretty dead for a Saturday night after a big Oilers W.
Is this a trend across bars that aren't on Whyte? Was at Uncle Glenn's on New Years and my group was one of only two who were there. Bummed me out a bit, they put quite a lot of effort into the decor and celebrating.

Went to Sabor on Friday evening. Hadn't been in a while, great overall per usual. Still easily top 5 in the city. Was full with alumni game that night as well.

Went to various venues this weekend for Winterruption Music Festival. Any place participating in that was quite busy (Dive Bar, Rocky, Starlite, Cask, 9910, etc)

Wrong!

Downtown says welcome to Fennec, an intimate wine and cocktail bar/bistro in the City Centre Mall. The new venture joins sister restos Boxer and Coterie; the chef is Jack Dickson. Primarily small plates—duck croquettes, scallop crudo, Brussels with miso and candied peanut—with a few larger dishes at night—braised beef, roast cod. Enjoy lunch Monday-Friday and dinner (for now) Thursday-Saturday, from 4pm. Fennec, 10250 101 Street fennecyeg.com.

Going with work for lunch tomorrow. Will report back!

^I went last week with a group had some drinks and appies. Quite good, tasty sharable plates, nice people running it. Feels very big city looking out. Quite a bit smaller inside than I expected but they're going to be building a covered patio in the spring.
