I assumed only site staff could start new threads. Shows what I know.

There are 53 wildfires currently burning across Alberta in the Forest Protection Area, and four mutual aid fires.
  • 10 are classified as out of control, eight are being held and 35 are under control.
  • There have been five new wildfires since Tuesday.
Evacuation order update:
  • On July 17, the Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council plans to rescind its evacuation orders for Peerless Lake and Trout Lake, allowing all residents to return home. Residents must remain prepared to evacuate again if conditions change.
  • The Municipal District of Opportunity No. 17’s evacuation order for Chipewyan Lake remains in effect.
  • The Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council’s evacuation alert for the Loon River First Nation (Loon Lake) remains in effect.
  • The Municipal District of Opportunity No. 17’s evacuation alert for Red Earth Creek remains in effect.

Enbridge (among others) have withdrawn from a group working to establish net-zero benchmarks.

The Environment Minister has not budged on the EV mandate

A new direct air capture centre located in Innisfail will remove carbon dioxide from the air and send it to Sturgeon County where it will be injected below ground into the Meadowbrook Carbon Storage Hub. The Canadian Energy Centre said the Innisfail facility is the first in the world to test technology that removes carbon dioxide directly from the air.

Tornado risk, particularly for Red Deer. Potential aurora borealis across Northern Alberta.

I don't know who to believe as The Weather Network is saying we could be in for some severe storms today too. They include us in the orange section.

8am and already muggy outside. Eyes to the skies today!

The severe storm watch is on. Will the Edmonton Weather Dome™ prevail, or will we finally get a big summer storm?

They've been calling for a big storm for weeks now, and it is absolutely beautiful out currently. Here's hoping for an evening thunderstorm.

The high risk in Alberta for Thursday, July 24, encompasses large stretch of central Alberta, with much of the QEII and cities like Red Deer under the gun for the threat of wind gusts up to 110 km/h, hail up to five centimetres in size, rainfall up to 30 millimetres, and the chance of a tornado popping up.

The moderate risk zone in Alberta is wide-reaching and includes Edmonton, Calgary, Lloydminster, Fort McMurray, and High Level. Hazards in this area include wind gusts of up to 100 km/h, rainfall up to 30 millimetres, and hail up to three centimetres in size.

A minor risk zone is also present in western and portions of northern Alberta, with areas like Grande Prairie, Edson, Banff, and Jasper National Parks potentially seeing thunderstorms with wind gusts of up to 70 km/h, hail up to two centimetres in size, and 30 millimetres of rain.

Storm passing over Wabamun right now and heading East/NE. If it stays on its track, it should reach the city in about an hour, but only really affect the west and north.

Hit us on the southside around 4:30 like a ton of bricks!

Hail, wind and sheets of raining falling for about 5 minutes.

Then there was a storm at midnight I want to say that hit the southside but other parts of the City harder than the south.

Nice to FINALLY see some storms!

Did anyone else hear that thunderstorm that passed through about 1:30 AM last night? It's the first time this year I was awakened by thunderclaps.
Likewise. Thunder was mostly distant (West Edmonton) but there was one crack that was like a bomb went off in my driveway.

According to Environmental Defense, the GoC is about to list several thousand PFAs as toxic, with regulation (removal from market) coming about in 2027. If you want a nonstick pan that gives you pancreatic cancer, get them while they're hot.

Flame retardants are also being removed from consumer goods including kids toys.
