It's so crazy to me that this place used to be in the middle of nowhere, and is now quickly being surrounded by suburbs quicker than I can keep track of

Hopefully the expansion/realignment of Whitemud Drive is back on the books at some point. That'll alleviate some issues out that way.

How that isn't out to Hwy 60 always perplexes me to help relieve some of the insane traffic there at times.

That section of Whitemud Drive/Hwy 628 between Hwy 60 and the River Cree casino is on Enoch land. I'm assuming that any upgrades to that road requires Enoch approval and funding.

The plan is to realign Whitemud slightly to the north to run entirely outside of Enoch boundaries

Surprisingly, there is. An 8-lane cross-section of Whitemud Drive is 41 m, including shoulders and a concrete median. Currently, that much space does exist between the houses in Rosenthal and the border with Enoch.
