There's going to be vote buying no matter what. I'd rather they buy votes with passenger rail than expanding freeways.

Do you have any update on this? I haven't seen anything, but maybe I missed it.
I presume it was the letter about the Calgary Banff line the premier put out.

^ correct. It was also in the mandate letter for the Ministry of Transportation. That's very important to get required pieces in place (funding, etc.)

Couldn't find a thread for the Banff-Cgy line, sorry But I do think they are related in some way. Once one rail project gets off the ground others will be infinitely more likely because people will see that it can be done. We need a paradigm shift in thinking away from 'rails are not profitable' to 'all forms of public transportation are not profitable but diverse methods of transportation are essential for various reasons including environment, road capacity, etc.' One successful project would go a long way to bringing this paradigm shift closer.

I do hope rail transportation is found to be far more effective and efficient to getting people from town to town, and city to city.

The cost would probably fall somewhere between $20b - $30b now. But significant chunks could likely be covered by private equity and public bodies like the Canada Infrastructure Bank.

and would probably double in value in a couple of decades. One jurisdiction (unlike two between Montreal and Toronto), mostly flat, much of the land already set aside... this is attractive to private capital and will move forward in due course, I have no doubt.
