I’m looking forward to the next census. The 2021 data for neighbourhoods showed some mature areas really starting to rebound after 30-40 years of decline for many. This next round should give us great insights into the difference infill is making.

When should we anticipate these numbers coming out?

Census is every 5 years. Expect it in May 2026.

Alberta 4,980,659 (+138,136)
Calgary 1,839,000 (+60,194)
Edmonton 1,673,860 (+42,246)

I didn't know Saskatchewan at 900,000 was our 3rd most populated province until 1943 (for a good portion of the first half of the 1900s).

Alberta and BC virtually the same (projected) by 2100 at nearly 12 million with Quebec not that far behind. Wow - huge numbers.

Meanwhile, Sask only grows by another 700,000 from 1943 to 2100.

The division seems quite stark in these projections, four very provinces with very big populations and the rest much smaller.

However, I kind of wonder if things like affordability and land availability will restrain growth more in some places and facilitate it more in others.

Although metro Edmonton already has more people than most provinces (except the top four) do.

Saskatchewan and Alberta were largely dependent on agriculture until the end of World War II.

Alberta Government does not perform a census. Canada does. Anything the UCP puts out is suspect.

I think the population may have been calculated by Treasury Board and Finance.

It's all estimate.....how do they know where immigrants and in-country transfers will migrate to?

There are demographic statistics - births, deaths, migration (interprovincial/international, migration within Alberta). Stats Can also has intercensus estimates.

Alberta Government does not perform a census. Canada does. Anything the UCP puts out is suspect.

Population estimates are public information collected by the Office of Statistics and Information (OSI), a subsidiary provincial arm of StatsCan. All data is sourced nationally.

The current majority government does not compromise the integrity of the entire Government of Alberta.

Predictions:
When does Alberta pass B.C. in the population category and when does Alberta become Canada's second most populous Province?
My prediction: B.C. by 2030; and Quebec by 2050.
