I'm disappointed. I have been really looking forward to seeing this project come to fruition. That stretch of road is quite devoid of life but this building rejuvenation has full potential to enliven the area.

it's as if stephen king has written a screen play called "how to kill an entire downtown" and it's half-way through being filmed in edmonton with the director hoping no-one will notice until it's too late.

^^^^ I want to laugh at that comment @kcantor but it is so true unfortunately that I share exactly the same fears. Poor Edmonton... and these things are happening without a peep of resistance.

No... it has no business in CBD. It would be nice if they rebuild in Boyle as that would eradicate another empty/decapitated parcel.

Can't blame for Beljan wanting to walk away from this site, but seriously selling the site to a homeless shelter? I would expect more from Beljan, who I believe is one of the more community focused developers out there. If I were Sutton Place, the owners of CCM, and any other property owner who with a property nearby, I'd be speaking up about this. 100% not the place for a homeless shelter

Yikes, this would be incredibly disappointing news if true... this'll just add to the already worsening situation developing downtown these days. Would be nice if we actually had a decent advocate for downtown on city council.

Things were in the works, but it had a bunch of requirements/funding/etc. to fall into place for it to go forward.

The renovation work should have the building permit in place soon, as they only applied for it back in September. Most work is interior, so you won't notice much of a difference unless you go inside the building.

I can tell you that there is no deal with Boyle Street. They had the building under contract but did not remove conditions. We are looking at bringing this back to the forefront by making some changes to our original concept (essentially converting some of the more risky space into residential). We are evaluating these approaches and hope to get this one back on the grill.
