Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

There’s not a lot left to SPR. Obviously don’t want people’s hard earned businesses to fail. But the majority of businesses most impacted are in the 149-156st section. And it’s a tough collection overall. (And the jasper gates shopping centre I wouldn’t quite include as the massive parking lot and access from 149st & 100aves make it less dire).

- corner pharmacy (closed already)
- stony pharmacy
- CPA offices
- lucky aces clothing
- donair shop
- video game shop
- DQ
- smokin aces novelty store (closed already)
- African spice shop
- pizza and donair
- convenience store
- XXX dvd liquidators
- tailor
- cash money store
- convenience store (closed and boarded up)
- dollorama (burned down)
- Aaron’s (sketchy version of the Brick)
- JP hotel (boarded up)
- tropical food store
- massage place
- cash canada pawn shop
- cash box pawn shop
- JPHAWC (closed down)
- empty buildings
- empty lots
- west end exchange pawn shop
- vacuum seller
- coin laundry
- luggage land
- vacuum central
- money mart
- quick mart
- bakery/cafe
- united way
- demolished building/lot
- revolution cycle, gym, golf, yoga building.

Any guesses on how long it’ll take for this area to be rebuilt?

The bones are there for it to be one of our only “main streets”. But man…it’ll need 5-10 great projects to make it attractive. Not sure how it’ll ever get there. Wish a developer with deep pockets would buy up the whole strip to rebuild it.

You forgot to include Variant Edition.
That Jasper Place Hotel has been boarded up for a few years now. I was under the impression that it was to be demolished to make way for the LRT construction. When will that eyesore be finally put out of our misery?

The issue is not left turns in general, it's left turns at this particular intersection during the construction period. Normally, at busy intersections there is a separate lane for vehicles turning left and those attempting to proceed straight through the intersection are not trapped behind them. Because this intersection is constricted into a single lane east and westbound, there is nowhere for vehicles going straight to bypass someone who is turning. This leads to major backlogs.
Oh, I understand what you are saying. I just have a particular hatred for left turns. They're the epitome of North American lazy driving, create unnecessary points of conflict, slows down traffic or, when there are turning lanes, takes a lot of road space that could be put to better use.

Stop signs and grounding cables at 34 Ave today. WPE trailer sitting on the crossovers at MWTC. Wonder how many more things were done not according to plan? How long is this cable cleanup going to take? What other work is happening that they are scrambling like mad to complete while they can blame this cable misplacement?

Believe they said it would take 4 days

Also, all the construction fences at Bonnie Doon stop are gone.

Also, I noticed a few guys with Trans Ed helmets on doing some sort of inspection tour at the Davies station this morning.

Are these potential tell tale signs of a positive announcement sooner than later?

Saw scaffolding up one of the piers by the Muttart on the south side of the bridge. Looked like they were doing some work on the connection between the bridge and pier. Might be related to the welding issue we heard on the other forum. Not sure how minor or major.

Soon!

There would be more optimism, if the people building this thing were confident enough at this point to just give us a date.

The hesitancy at this point makes them look even more incompetent, if that is possible.

Again, only the City can set the official date once it’s handed off to them.
