I chatted briefly with one of the workers. He stated that this road will be open by monday. Also apparently they had layed 3 layers down which is usually used on bus routes.
 
I just wish they could have given a bit better detail regarding the completion/reopening time frame of some of the roads, especially south of whitemud.
check out Transed's website if you haven't already. The updates are mostly about overnight/periodic closures, but any roads reopening will be on here as soon as they have a date nailed down.

From the other day to today, they have poured most of the permanent concrete barriers.

Also of note, as of today almost all of the final layer of asphalt has now been laid on the north bound lane from just north of the elevated LRT track to 82Ave. Hopefully the south bound lane for that same stretch will be laid today or tomorrow. I hope that once that is done that the intersections in that area will be reopened.

It appears that lots of the new curbs and sidewalks have been poured in the vicinty of the former traffic circle at Bonnie Doon. A number of workers were there today.
 
Hey guys, TransEd announced that they'd be testing trains along 66th street tomorrow from Whitemud to 28th ave from 6 am to 3 pm. I really wish I could go see that but I've got school 😢 Were any of you guys planning to go check it out?

As long as the brakes are working by the time I ride it next fall, I will let the rest of you sleuth this project out. ;)

actually i saw this notice and was already planning to go see this, they should be doing this tomorrow and Friday as well if anyone is interested. When i stopped by, the train was stationary, with the diesel locomotive coupled to it. The train looks complete, except for no pantograph, and some very technical-looking fringy things attached to the front to measure clearances (i assume). So, I didn't get any videos of it moving, but here's some photos.

One thing that really struck me, seeing this thing out 'in the wild' was just how low these things are. There's maaaaybe 6" of clearance between the bottom of the car and the track, and the doors are just a few inches above that. the train is just as low, if not lower, than a bendy bus. in this pic, you can just barely see the wheels peaking out:

I guess that's another point about these trains, relevant to the street running they will be doing: although they are big, carrying slightly more people than a single U2 car, they are lower and thinner, and the streamlined nose lightens the visual weight a lot as well. They are also surprisingly long; again rationally we know this from technical stats, but seeing it in person, you don't really connect both ends together, you kind of expect there to be a coupling somewhere in those 7 sections. these are a different beast from what we run currently on the high-floor lines. I'm excited to see them running on their own power at some point.
