40 story residential is really not that tall… same as Encore… not sure why that would be unreasonable on a site right in the core of downtown. If ever there was a site for height it’s this one.
Agreed. Tall is so ... 2010! I have said this on the Calgary forum before as well, but I too would trade a 50 storey tower for a 20 storey nice one, or even a 50 storey tower for 8 x 6 storey buildings with nice streetscapes.Tall would be nice, but a high quality shorter high-rise or even a midrise could become much more of a landmark and create much more interest from a street view perspective than an uninspired tall building.
I'd trade a 50 story glass box for a 20 story architectural masterpiece any day of the week.
I love tall buildings as much as the next guy in this forum, but I do feel like as I grow older I care a lot less for what the city looks from afar than about how it looks and feels when you're actually on the streets.
Truman would be nice but an Edmonton grown builder/developer might serve us just as well. Whereas Calgary has seen builders like Truman and Jayman evolve and step up their game, we are seeing similar evolution from the likes of Rohit and Cantiro. Here's hoping that whoever takes this on is ambitious and well capitalized. The caveat being that the current owners actually have to sell at a reasonable rate and the City is especially accommodating of construction at this constrained site.I’m good with midrises in some areas. But really want to see this be a 30-45 story beast. Such a good location.
Mixed use hotel and residential please. Somebody convince Truman to come on up here once they’re done the 25 projects they’re doing in Calgary.
Would be neat if someone did like an Enbridge 2 and used a similar design for continuity maybe with some hotel and residential.Maybe something on par with Enbridge.
Enbridge 2: This time; it's PERSONAL.Would be neat if someone did like an Enbridge 2 and used a similar design for continuity maybe with some hotel and residential.
Could it be one that's in the centre of the city... perhaps in a mall?A hotel chain that's already in downtown may be looking for a new building...

Or maybe the Holiday Inn or Double Tree.Could it be one that's in the centre of the city... perhaps in a mall?
Coast hotel reno going that badly, huh?A hotel chain that's already in downtown may be looking for a new building...

Honestly, I have been following Calgary threads talking about these towers and some of the talks are sounding a lot like our Aldritt Tower conversations went here. I will honestly be surprised if they go ahead in their current form.I know it's far fetched but god I'd love something taller than the proposed Truman towers in Calgary just so we have the crown of "tallest building outside of Toronto" again.
That or at least have a flat concrete lot that could be used by food trucks and stalls in the meantime.
