There are developers who figure out how to make money, build nice things that satisfy market demand and then there are companies that just sit on things and I don't think have the capacity to come up with good ideas.

Not trying to defend Regency necessarily, I also really don't like the way they do things, and think in recent years they've done more harm than good to downtown by essentially just taking perfectly good buildings and turning them into pits and/or empty lots. More just trying to say that it wasn't necessarily all just incompetence on their part that led to the abandonment of Tower 101 specifically, there were a number of factors outside their control that likely played a pretty major factor in this particular project. Like Valley Line delays, COVID and the general economic down turn that followed, etc.

While Regency dithers, other buildings such as The Parks and Falcon are under construction by their developers. I still have a hard time swallowing any of Regency's excuses.

My buddy just became the gym manager at enbridge tower. Told me today that they’ve boarded up this one wall on the 2nd floor near the gym that will be the future pedway to this new tower.

Says the building manager for enbridge mentioned that they’d be starting construction soon on that tower, hence the change.

Anyone else have intel?

I’m not sure how soon would be soon either given that (a) as far as I know there haven’t been any building permits applied for and (b) I’m not even sure the status of the last development permit.

I pressed my buddy one what “soon” meant. And he was like “idk, I’m new haha. But apparently it’s never been boarded up, so for some reason they’re doing it now…”

This lot is the perfect case study for the city to change it's laws on unkept or bare land properties downtown. If they're scrounging for money that seems like low hanging fruit if you ask me.
