Some friends were telling me about this site last week, I guess it's not actually U/C yet, looks like they're just doing some kind of geologic testing.

What was there before? subsoil sampling could lead to a remediation project.

@archited Looks like it was a two-story building up to around 2007-08:

Historic uses that would trigger soil remediation (potentially) include service stations or oil handling businesses (which this doesn't seem to be) and Dry Cleaners (maybe?)

The South half of the building was a pool hall. Used to skip class in high school and go there to play where occasionally (when it was empty in the daytime) the owners would serve us beer lol those were the days.

A few days ago a precast pedestal base was installed on the SE corner of the site, right in the corner next to the alley and the neighbouring condo building. Today, the steel contraption was gone, with only a couple rebar sections sticking out of the ground. it was dark out, so i didn't bother to get a photo of what remains. not sure what this means. I think the pedestal base might be unrelated; but the steel structure going away means something, either construction progressing, or shutting down. We shall see!

I can't imagine whatever this was was part of the future building. If you look closely, it looks like there is a random chair underneath whatever it was.

That said, I don't know what this would have been in the old building either.

Been there since the start of COVID more or less. Will be interesting if this goes forward still.
