Construction blocks walkers, drivers from downtown Edmonton section of 102nd Avenue
It started about a week ago with a few construction barricades saying "road closed," blocking pedestrians, motorists and cyclists from entering 102nd Avenue between 100th Street and 100A Street in downtown Edmonton.
The buzz, according to some people frequenting the closed-off block outside the City Centre Mall, was that the work was preparation for construction of the new Valley Line LRT project.
But city spokesperson Quinn Nicholson told CBC News Friday that the current street closure is not related to the LRT — work on the 102nd Avenue leg of the Valley Line will start later this year.
The current activity is related to a Telus project. The company has a building permit to work on the Telus Toll Building at 10035 102nd Ave. until June 30.
