Edmonton Oilers

This team is clearly still trying to figure things (and each other) out, but it's enough games now that we should begin an upward trend... even with Connor out.

They're in a massive shooting % slump that is making everything seem worse than it is. We will be fine. Connor's injury is the x-factor.

2024 NHL team valuations from Sportico are out. Oilers move up one spot to the 7th most valuable franchise at $2.4B.

Oilers are recalling Philp (from Canmore) due to the McDavid injury. He is a beauty and really nice guy, whose family runs the local sports store here. Such a story too, but here's hoping we see a continuation of his preseason and that he stays up.

Oilers are still 4-2-1 in the last 6 games since the 3-0 start. Already on the right track, Connor injury could be an issue. I haven't heard anything about it being a longer term thing (yet). So I'm not too worried (yet).

The Oilers are once again on an absolutely awful PDO to start the year. One of the better shot differentials in the league and one of the worst goal differentials, which is not sustainable.

A couple of weeks it sounds like.

Great team win!

Congrats to Noah Philp who got his first NHL point last night on the Perry goal.

Great story as he's a Golden Bears alum and he took a year off last season for mental health concerns.

He looked great in his debut, not just the assist, he looked quick and was making good decisions with the puck. Doesn't seem afraid to take a shot when the opportunity presents itself.

^great guy and family... and will put money on him being a regular.

Nice win against the Flames, but still not looking collected out there.

Edmonton Oilers announced they had completed a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers. The Oilers received defenseman Ronnie Attard in exchange for Ben Gleason.

Didn't catch it, but all reports are that we cannot finish, seem to always face a Vezina tender and that, special teams are poor and CP was soft.

Gotta string a few Ws together against top tier teams IF we are serious.

Oilers deserved a better fate in that one. Losing 3-0 to the Devils with almost double the shots. Devils scored on every half decent chance they had.

Allen was good, but lucky as well, Oilers missed a few gaping cages.

Pickard not good last night.

Well, glossing over what I assume was a pretty crappy game from only watching the last 5 minutes.

I've seen a lot of articles and comments popping up in Oilers circle in other corners of the internet about potentially moving the Oilers farm squad closer to home. Bakersfield seems to be a great organisation, and they seem to do well in the city, but logistically it makes a lot more sense to have the farm be at the very least in Canada, ideally Alberta.

Every other Canadian team either has their team in their actual city or relatively nearby.

Calgary: Calgary Wranglers
Toronto: Toronto Marlies
Winnipeg: Manitoba Moose (They play at the same rink as the Jets)
Montreal: Laval Rocket
Vancouver: Abbotsford Canucks
Ottawa: Belleville Senators

I've seen some people suggest Red Deer as a potential landing spot, they could maybe play out of the Centrium, where the Rebels play.

Putting them in Edmonton would be nice but tough as it would be tough with scheduling at Rogers considering its also the Oil Kings home rink. They could maybe make a deal with the U of A and play out of Clare Drake as well?

I think it would be cool if they put the farm team in Saskatchewan, probably Saskatoon. Sask currently has no pro hockey teams which is a real shame.

Overall, I guess what are our thoughts? Are we good with the current arrangement with the Condors, or would it be best for the organisation to move the farm closer to home?
