Edmonton Oilers

^ McJesus is clearly not amused. 😬

In related news, Tyson Barrie is signing a contract with the godless Flames.

The Oilers need the leadership to instil a better work ethic, teamwork and commitment to excellence. Hold each other to account and commit to specific goals.

I don't believe Jack Campbell is entering for any kind of addiction as far as I'm aware.

He's been open in the past about struggling with his mental health, my guess would be this is why he's entering the program, similar to when Patrik Laine entered. He's seems like a great guy and a great teammate from everything I've seen, hope he gets the help he needs.

Agree with this post but also add that addiction IS also a mental illness.

In fact many people with mental illness suffer from multiple illnesses - such as anxiety or depression as well as alchol or drug addiction. Why? Because, in part, people look at self medicating with alcohol or drugs because the depression or anxiety feels overwhelming and they don't want to feel that way anymore. So one way to numb those feelings is with substances like alcohol or drugs. Of course that further complicates things.

"Substance use disorder (SUD) is a treatable mental disorder that affects a person's brain and behavior, leading to their inability to control their use of substances like legal or illegal drugs, alcohol, or medications. Symptoms can be moderate to severe, with addiction being the most severe form of SUD."

100% agreed

I worded my post poorly, I said "mental health" but I believe it is specifically depression that Campbell has struggled with in the past.

Speaking of athletes with mental illness, Clara Hughes, Olympic medalist in both summer and winter games (speedskating and track cycling) is so amazing.

Her dad had an alcohol addiction and another undiagnosed mental illness and was abusive. She had PTSD and depression as a result and turned to drugs, cigarettes and alcohol as a teenager. A lot of people may have written her off - drug addict and a nuisance to society.

Then she watches Gaetan Boucher at the Olympics and gets inspired and gives up those previous addictions for an addiction of winning - which also wasn't healthy. She started in cycling and her abusive coach called her fat, lazy and slow - even though she practically won every event she competed in. After her first Olympic medal (bronze), she felt like garbage and eventually turned back to alcohol, cigarettes and drugs.

Eventually she turned to speedskating and again overcame those addictions. It took a lot of work to end her addictive behaviour years into her athletic career and finally have a healthy perspective about winning/losing/sport and life.

Amazing, courageous, person. Only athlete in the world I believe to win multiple medals in both summer and winter games (3 others have won single medals in both games, but none multiple).

Thanks for indulging me.

Another lacklustre Oilers effort last night with many shots, many poor puck movement plays and a concerning lack of chemistry.

Love reading these things.

The Oilers should get a shot at the final 4 and from there it is far beyond a Connor or Drai to make it to the top, but for me I just want to see far more effort each and every night if they are truly interested in winning a cup.

Lost Lavoie, who had pretty good pre-season, on waivers to VGK and Skinner moving down to 3rd line due to poor pre-season. Janmark moving up to 2nd line for now.

I guess Holloway has been impressive for the Blues. Not sure about Broberg.

The Knights are nothing but a bunch of Asshats! Is there a conspiracy out there amongst all teams to drain our pool?

The Knights also claimed Cole Schwindt from Calgary. They have essentially a non-existant prospect pool so they've been trying to add young players to be the next guy up. They added Alexander Holtz from New Jersey earlier as well. Their forward core in general is very depleted after not signing Marchessault. Surprised they (or anybody) didn't claim Jakob Pelletier who is better than both Lavoie and Schwindt at this point, though he hasn't really lived up to the hype yet.
