The Oil Kings finished off the 2023/24 regular season this past Sunday with 17,720 in attendance; their largest crowd of the season. Despite a rather unsuccessful season on the ice (they finished 27-37-3-1, a 0.426 points % and 18th place in 22 team league) they had an average attendance of 7,404 per game. I heard they lead the WHL in attendance by a pretty wide margin. This is great news for the team and, in my opinion, great news for our downtown and the bars/restaurants in downtown. Having, on average, about 7,500 more people in the core over 34 nights during the September to March time frame does wonders for the health, vibrance and vitality of our core. And this is in addition to the 45(+?) nights with 18,000+ people attending Oilers games and 25+ nights with 10,000-18,000 people attending concerts/etc. All together that is a minimum of 100 nights with at least 7,500 people coming downtown. One night out of three on average. Great stuff!!! I hope the Kings can have a more successful season on the ice next year and an even more successful season in the stands.
