Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Apparently YWG-KEF also going to be announced.

This makes me wonder if the leaked GLA for both YWG and YEG will also come, seeing as the leaked KEF for both have come to fruition.

1x weekly is better than nothing. My assumption is that they're just testing the water and will increase frequencies after either bookings pick up or if it performs well this summer.
YEG-GLA is possible like discussed yesterday, but it would make sense if that showing up in the system was a glitch along with YYC-GLA, YWG-GLA, and YVR-DUB/EDI/FCO/BCN showing up. I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

A friend of mine just returned from a jaunt to Reykjavik via YYC(😡) and holy moly was it expensive - several hundred bucks for one of the lagoon complexes, airbnb through the roof, food and car rental as well.....is it worth it?

KEF is a destination in itself of course. However it's also a major connection point as a gateway to Europe. I suspect at least half the people flying this route will use it as such.

Agree, 8 to 12? flights isn't much. Even two days per week would have been much easier for vacation planning logistics. Westjet must be pretty confident this won't hurt their YYC KEF route, however if it does then I can't see them continuing it.

Glad to have KEF back, even if it’s just 1x weekly, but 2 or 3x weekly would’ve been ideal as it’s hard to plan a trip around 1x and will likely involve a connection either going or coming back.

Also, not as glamorous, but I’d expect to get YXU (London) back when they release their full summer schedule in January. They added YWG-YXU, and I’d assume there’s more demand from YEG than Winnipeg. YXU is a great airport for anyone going to SW Ontario who doesn’t want to deal with Pearson.

Just to clarify: you're talking about London, Ontario. Not the real London! 😛

I would kill for a YXU if it means I can connect from Kelowna and not have to deal with flying Pearson.

Yep, not completely shafted.....

Edmonton YEG - Reykjavik KEF, 1x weekly 737 MAX 8 starting 26JUN26.

Yes, I wonder if the distance may have been the factor for not having further destinations. However, hopefully this can also be the start for more direct travel options to Europe from here as I would expect they have good connections to some other parts of Europe.

1 X Weekly for the Summer....🥱

Once a week is not a schedule any more than once an hour is a bus schedule.
Global connectivity? Give me a break.
