Kamloops is a nice addition! Hopefully it works this time around with the smaller aircraft. I remember a few years ago when Flair ran the route my flights there and back were less than half full.

Air Tindy out of Yellowknife has add a much needed run. Yellowknife, Hayriver, Fort Chip and Edmonton.

Its probably a bit too soon for high speed rail north yet, but Fort McMurray passed 50,000 many years ago as did Grande Prairie. Also Grande Prairie is a hub for a region of over 250,000 people now.

Lots of people come from both these areas to Edmonton regularly and it is a much longer drive than Edmonton to Calgary, so something a bit faster would probably be popular.

Yes, it seems like the last several years, Calgary YYC has more Nonstop daily flights year round to Fort McMurray YMM & Grande Prairie YQU both on WestJet / Air Canada compared to YEG.

While Edmonton YEG has limited nonstop flights to both of those cities YMM & YQU - although YEG does have more daily nonstop bus service year round to Fort McMurray & Grand Prairie combined with
(Red Arrow, Rider Express, Ebus & Coldshot) compared to YYC.

With (S25) season, most Canada major airports should do well for Passengers Traffic

Plus good news Edmonton Oilers are still playing in NHL hockey playoffs , as it helps brings visitors into Edmonton YEG area for a visit & vacation leisurely trip.

Going to travel in Canada this Summer.
As me and family won’t fly anywhere internationally, until at least the fall of 2025.

Those potential long-haul pencil routes didn’t pan out mainly due to COVID and then the surge in demand afterwards (with some impact from delayed aircraft production) that limited slots and seats for major airports and routes. That’s why we saw a comeback of the hub-and-spoke model and larger aircraft like the A380. Give things time to return back to the trend of point-to-point travel that we were seeing pre-pandemic.

Personally, long-haul in a narrow body would be a soul-crushing exercise in the steerage section; the latest generation of steerage seats are barely suitable for anything more than 1.5-2 hours. Business class maybe (maybe [maybe]), but even then I'd prefer wide-body up front.
