Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Update on this - had to do customs in ATL and exit to re enter. We had an 1.5 hour lay over. Just made it to the gate, barley.
its because US customs is closed for red eye on the Edmonton side, which is actually very dumb for those morning connections in Atlanta.

I find YEG arrivals roadway to almost be a bit hostile to anything that isn't a taxi or shuttle. It seems like with their messaging they are going even further trying to make people who want to be picked up by private vehicle without paying having to continue to use the lanes created on the other side of the parkade. Even for the "paid" pickup you have to cross a taxi lane and a shuttle lane to get to it which I don't believe is something I have seen commonly at many larger airports. I understand congestion and the like but it seems.
The arrivals lane has always had paid parking, though I never once saw it enforced. I think it is a positive development overall though because the temporary area becoming permanent will help those who usually park at 7-Eleven etc

A lot of opportunity forthcoming on the cargo side and I don't think it will be too long until we see some more commercial popping up near the outlet mall. It does feel like that is a advantage YEG has to help pay for terminal upgrades and expansion and eventually that third runway.

Just back from Italy and spent a bunch of time at YYC. It's incredible how much of an economic driver a non-stop to a major world destination is for ones city, Downtown, business opportunities and hotel sector.

YEG really, really needs to push for another year round across the pond connection and another 1-2 seasonal (ideally an Indian/Korean and say that long lost LOT connection.

We just got back from a European trip - KLM to AMS with time in France and AMS. First time on KLM and we all were VERY impressed. The flight there looked to be full and the flight back also looked to be pretty close to full. Not bad for Monday flights in mid/late October. A wide range of nationalities on the flight so I'm sure there were connections to numerous countries in Europe and Asia and maybe Africa. We need to support and keep this important flight. Another flight to Southern Europe (Rome??) but especially a flight across the Pacific to southeast Asia would be fantastic.

I just booked 2 separate Yeg to Amsterdam flights for February and May 2025 for trips to Dubai and Rome. It was cheaper to fly through Yyc for the Rome trip but I will gladly pay more to avoid Calgary. Anyway the increased frequency of the KLM direct flight is a game changer for me because I can be more flexible on travel dates (I.e more options to use the direct flight.). Last year I used the Condor flight to Frankfurt travelling to London. It was a pretty good experience overall. We sure do need more options to Europe from Yeg but for now I can make do wit the Amsterdam direct flight for almost anyplace I want to go. No Yyc for me, ever.
