This building deserves a ***** rating for complete facade restoration and maintaining historical integrity with unassuming but modern, relevant, additional build-out space and re-use -- repurposing of building interiors. It is one of my favorites and, together with the Ukrainian Museum (Gene Dubb -- if it ever gets finished), the Flat Iron Building and the Goodridge Building on the opposite Corner, this block is shaping up to be a significant part of downtown Edmonton historical makerage (my word). It would be great if the rest of the block fronting Jasper could be infilled in some compatible way.

Mr. Kantor seems to be a man of great vision, for sure.
I believe the building will be open by this time next year. I sure hope he will continue on and redevelop another lost gem somewhere nearby.
Another close by parcel that could use a makerage : ) , is the Stan Daniels/Corrects Canada facility on 101Ave , kitty corner from the hotel formally know as Hyatt.
Its still in use of course and I never heard mention of plans for them to move (I used to volunteer there years ago), but the more the Quarters develops I could see them relocate to a larger facility. That building has great bones and architecture.

Not to derail thread further, but I'll do my best / :
A crappy pic of the Corrections Canada location taken during past Grey Cup dealy on Jasper Ave.
And then Gibson Block and area. I never did get further down to Brighton Block, but will soon... and then maybe I'll take a slide down the snowy embankment of Alldritt's site while I still can before its fenced off and shovels in the ground !

@Kaizen, excellent pics! I particularly like the round glass of the Flat Iron Building. I agree with your selection of another "saved" building. Two others in the area are the Russian Orthodox church (which you caught in photo form) and parts of the old RCMP barracks. The latter could be a component in a large mixed use development (new buildings in the parking area overlooking the river valley) with the old buildings refurbished to form a specialty retail, hospitality and service market complex. This, I believe, would have been a better site for Kipnes' galleria concept.

@archited , thank you.
Tonnes of potential in this area, it could use a little love.

Some pic's today of Brighton Block, and a few of the church and barracks (good name for the future mixed use?) Oh, pay no attention to the date stamp, its now corrected and wont have it
displayed again
