I believe this will be helpful, but I notice on their list of Goals for Growth that Business - reduced Commercial Vacancy is 4th out of 4 which sort of indicates to me the priority placed on this.
So perhaps something else more targeted towards that also needs to be done because an area full of empty store fronts is going to struggle to attract residents and visitors.

Many Downtown alleys are getting repaved this summer (thank god). Hydrovac work started today around 104th/105th

Did they give any more info on scope of work for this?
I suspect this isn't for full alley repaving but likely repaving sections where the alley tarmac will excavated via hydrovac, assumedly for utility upgrades/inspection. Which is exactly what EPCOR did last summer to my alley (one of very few alleys not included in this scope despite being within the project boundary).

Good Q, I actually read it a different way but now see what they are actually doing:
"Hydrovac operations will start this week to expose utilities throughout alleys in the Downtown Business Improvement Area (BIA) area. Hydrovac is required for concept planning and design. The work will be scheduled during weekdays and will impact alley access for a few hours at a time. Full alley closures are currently not anticipated. The hydrovac operations will be carried out in stages, and impacted businesses and properties will be notified through letters and posters prior to work commencing. This work is planned for completion in the spring."
So planning for full upgrades later

Downtown Alley Renewals (2027-30)
Multiple alleyways in the Downtown Business Improvement Area (BIA) have been selected for renewal under the Alley Renewal program. The renewal includes complete roadway structure reconstruction, upgrades to LED lighting where alley lighting exists, alley drainage improvements as needed and upgrading gravel alleys to paved standards. The initial estimated value and scope is only for concept planning.Latest Update:
Concept design is currently underway. Construction timelines will be confirmed once the design is complete and funding is approved.

FYI there was a major water main break in front of the McKinney Building Sunday. It's being repaired now, not sure of the cause.

Would have been nice if they had cleaned up the significant amount of mud.

Attainable Housing Incentive recommendation passed in Executive Committee. I don't think it's going to face any problems in Council, so guessing this means we're getting cranes in the sky soon enough.
