Downtown

  • The City of Edmonton plans to sell two downtown office buildings, Chancery Hall and Century Place, and relocate 1,350 staff as part of a $22.7-million project to optimize workspaces. If approved by city council, funding would come from an interim financing reserve, with repayment expected from building sale proceeds and cost savings. Council’s executive committee is expected to give a recommendation on the sale at a meeting on March 5.

With the melt here, what’s the chances they start sweeping gravel soon? Or will they leave gravel down for 7 weeks because of existing plans and the inability to be nimble?

I’m sure they don’t want to be wasteful and double up. But get the snow clearing team to work on at least cleaning up main streets and sidewalks throughout downtown.

The city's official start date for Street Sweeping has always been April 01st. But we know that they start that way earlier depending on the road conditions. I personally haven't seen them earlier, but some posters on here say that DT, Whyte ave etc are started around now.

Just listening to the Council session for a little bit and I caught that the amount of vacant land in downtown has decreased by 1/3 which is a nice stat to hear. I feel like that should be more publicized.

Does anyone have any info on that fact that there's DPs in progress right now that could amount to 11-1200 units? Not sure if I misheard that.

I didn't catch that. I'm aware of about 200 units in DP process, there might be others on their way. Also Phipps McKinnen conversion might be added to that. There have been no major residential building permits since 2021.
