Great! Now I can bike beside 4 lanes of choking car traffic. Why didn't they just put that empty bloated road on a diet?
I just wish they did the part in between gateway and calgary trail, which is very narrow and substandard. Very nice addition though. Also wish it just continued down 63rd, directly to 106 st instead of turning into a local road and not following the direct routeIt’s actually not a bad addition.
It’s a completed missing link to allows you to get into Allendale and onto 106th St. It saves you having to go through the New Asian Express Hotpot parking lot.
As someone who bikes down 63rd Ave not infrequently, it’s welcome.
Beat me to it! But I did take screenshots of the new ones.![]()
Active Transportation Network Expansion | City of Edmonton
We are expanding Edmonton’s active transportation network with routes that are safe, accessible and predictable for people of all ages and abilities.www.edmonton.ca
The Active Transportation Network Improvements website has added route maps for the 2025 routes that they are currently working on which gives a good idea of what things are supposed to look like. I have not seen any evidence of construction starting along Kingsway, so they better hope October weather holds up!
Well, looks like they'll be non-protected after all.As part of Old Strathcona renewal a couple years ago, there is a permanent protected two-way bike lane along 100 Ave from Sask Drive to the 83Ave bike lane.
With the active transportation acceleration work, this 100 Ave bike route is being extended south from 83 to 76 Ave with pin in curb infrastructure. Some lost street parking as a result. This extended new route will provide access to Happy Beer Street in Ritchie.
And then when 76Ave bike route is completed east, neighbourhoods such as King Edward and Avonmore will be connected. And then from 76 Ave new routes from 89 and 85 streets will travel north through Bonnie Doon to the river valley that are planned for next year and will help complete more of the core network where ridership potential is higher (if not cancelled by new council).
