Canadian Finals Rodeo

CFR is back in Edmonton in 2024!

Personally glad to see it back.
I feel the same way about this that I do of this cities obsession with bike lanes. Exploitation exploitation exploitation. It should have stayed gone. Just my opinion.

I am really not a fan of those stools, they look flimsy and cheap which may be partly why they are seldom used much.

Not close to the crowds the event used to get at Northlands.

Attendance figures for 2017 show 90,268 took in the CFR - the most ever.

Over 101,000 people attended Farmfair International that year as well.

Things have changed, not being connected to farmfair hurts. I really hope we can retain and build on this, I saw lots of people this week around downtown who were clearly here for this event.

Another fun night at the CFR.

Somewhat disappointed in how many folks I know head to the Stampede rodeo, but don't want to make a night out at the CFR, but hopeful that we can build off of this year. There's lots of potential here, but it really needs to get out earlier, into the community, create a buzz and some more corporate pancake breakfasts each day, get the business community out, excited etc.

This scene below is 5:30pm on a FRIDAY before the CFR (starts at 6:30). While it was cool out and a bit windy, it was fine sitting here and having a bev; was hoping to see it packed and some energy, but none was had and even the spots around it where just somewhat busy given everything.

They really should consider reviving the Farmfair. It should take place in the ICE District plaza, Fan Park, Churchill Square or the convention centre. Once the Event Centre has finished, move the Farmfair there.

This is yet another example of the Fermi paradox that is downtown Edmonton, even when there are a lot of people here for an event it can be uneven. It seems like a black hole. Where are all the people, hunkered down in their offices, residences and hotel rooms or headed home in the rush hour commute?

I know I saw some people walking around downtown during the day that were here for the event, but it did not seem as busy as expected and it would have been a good time for people who work downtown to embrace things more rather than the usual rush home at 4 or 4:30.
