The Avonair Curling Club, which was NE of Kingsway Mall, was permanently closed back in January. I'm not sure what the future plans are for this site but last I saw it was under pending sale.

Wouldn't it be nice if someone redeveloped it as follows:
- 2 or 3 mid-rise or high-rise towers
- mixed use with hotel and residential units
- 1, 2 or 3 bedroom units
- podium includes a new and improved curling rink, arena, cafe/restaurant and hotel lobby
- 2 or 3 level underground parkade
- services Blatchford, NAIT, Kingsway Mall and LRT riders

6-8 storey mixed-use building, maybe with student housing as buildings suggested 👀

^ not a sixty-storey building for a renamed Northern Alberta Institute of Tower-building?

It's one of those spots I would love to see something just a little taller, like 20ish stories, and create a bit of a visual focal point you can see from further away.
With some ground floor retail that can take advantage of people walking to/from NAIT and the LRT station. Nothing fancy, could be student housing, or just a market rate rental apartment would be fine too.

Kind of like the tower recently built on near the U of C campus.

NAIT housing is a much better fit on the Blatchford lands, close to the LRT stations. I'm honestly not sure what would be a great fit here. Hotel, perhaps. Sadly I expect it'll get torn down and replaced with a V-shaped strip mall. I don't think there's a liquor store, cannabis store, donair shop, or dentist in a 50 foot radius, and that doesn't fly in Edmonton.

Here’s my idea: realign the Metro Line under 107 St/Princess Elizabeth with a broader curve that trains can take at a faster speed.

Big sold sign on the building now. Curious who bought it, if the building is structurally sound it would have alot of potential uses.

I'm hoping it will be a competent developer that has the vision and expertise to redevelop this site to our liking..

If the building is salvageable there is no need to demolish it. Potentially affordable large open indoor spaces like this are rare, I would like to see it repurposed into something like a climbing gym, pickleball centre, indoor mountain bike course, etc. There is plenty of already empty land very nearby that can be developed into something new like student housing (Petroleum Club, Hanger 11, East end of Blatchford, etc....). Worse case scenario is its another thing demolished and turned into parking in that area.
