76 Avenue between 75 Street and 99 Street has been chosen for renewal. Planning and design is currently underway.
Hey Everyone! A quick ask!
The survey is now active.
If you can, please complete and request that they plan and build for future bus service! (Along with whatever else you’d like to see!)
On the Edmonton Mass Transit Plan, there is a proposed route, SE33, which would run from Capilano to South Campus down 76th Ave.
This route would connect to the Capital Line, Valley Line, B1 and B2. It would encourage denser development on 76th Ave.
It would also make it easier for kids in Hazeldean and Ritchie who go to McKernan for Jr High and Scona for High School!
(Including my own when they get older. Haha)

I filled out the 76 Ave survey.
I told them that they need to do the following:
1. Expropriate the CN railyard at Gateway Blvd
2. Build wider sidewalks on both sides of 76 Ave, especially through the Mill Creek Ravine
3. Build a dedicated bike lane that is similar to the Oliverbahn
4. Install traffic lights at Whyte Ave and 96 St

Project update - December 2024
Thank you to everyone who engaged with the Project Team during the Exploring Opportunities stage of 76 Avenue Renewal.The What We Heard report is now available.
The Project Team is using City policies and standards, reviewing existing conditions and public feedback to determine the next steps for the project. The communities will be notified once those are determined.

Starting January 6, 2025, westbound 76 Avenue (89 Street to 95 Street) will be closed until February 28, 2025 for bridge and erosion control work in the ravine.
As well there will be no vehicle ravine access until at least late 2026 when the trestle bridge work begins later this year. People will need to find new routes. I wouldn't mind permanent vehicle closure.

This plan is really growing on, if... IF... at the terminus flanks we add some low-rise, even row-housing that's at or below market or rezone the last block to a higher density for market housing.

I really hate headlines like this. Many people are going to read this as "City has plan to close 76 ave and reroute traffic in favor of bikes". I look forward to arguing again and again that this is not an example of cars losing lanes to bikelanes! I like the idea because it's kinda sad how the ravine just goes into a culvert for a small road on top. I think about it when I drive down the huge dip in the road on 76 ave. At least 82 Ave has an actual bridge.

Then people will be disappointed when the city doesn't build this (they are replacing the culvert with a bridge) even though it was never the City's plan to close anything.
