They've started digging up 50 Street NB, north of the CPR tracks, with traffic moved west.

More piers/pilings have been poured at 50 Street, by the tracks. Also, the retaining wall is getting underway north of the tracks.

The federal government is giving Edmonton another ~$31M for the 50 Street rail overpass & lane widening project. This replaces most of the $33M extra the city agreed to pay last spring, giving Edmonton money back to pay down debt or fund something else. #yeg #cdnpoli #yegcc

That money the city is getting back will cover the beautiful pedestrian bridge across from Hotel Mac that was eliminated in the last budget talks. I think that's a great way to balance out the huge sum of money for this vehicle overpass and lane widening.

I'd love to see the Metro Line extension to Castle Downs get expedited first

No, just a wish as i think that bridge was around $20 million. Although funding for metro line bridge over the yellowhead as you noted would be nice, too.

I imagine the earliest that the Metro.Line bridge construction could start is around 2027.

Probably north of $200 million is my guess. It's going to be a long bridge

It would not surprise me by the time it's completed in like 2031 that the final price tag is $500m.
