Yeah it looks like they are waiting for the rest of the WEM station girders to be erected. It’ll likely be into February/ March before it’s finished

You either keep the road open to please the car traffic, or you get the work done fast. There is no Inbetween. It’s impossible to relocate utilities, complete duct banks, replace roads and sidewalks, lay track and install OCS in under 2 years when traffic is constantly being shifted. I’m sorry...

I drove by the SE part of the line the other day and was reminded: wasn’t the steel belts around the piers supposed to be temporary? I wonder if we will ever get a permanent solution? It’s been almost 2 years since they were installed.

Most utilities in that area would likely be close to original (for example a water line they removed recently contained asbestos). That long ago, city records would likely be incomplete if a utility line was placed unknown to them for whatever reason. It’s pretty rare to happen, I think this is...

Looks like they discovered a utility that they didn’t know was there. Unfortunate, but these things happen. Hopefully the change order isn’t too expensive…

The bridge over CN’s walker yard itself will be over a billion. With federal and provincial parties strapping down funding, I’m not sure I see that project happening soon

Wait until you find out about how variable construction of a nearly $3B mega project is. The scope and scale of this project is massive, schedules are likely to change over time. Take for example the large utility relocation and replacement that MIP had to carry out last summer- who could have...

A Agreed. I think their idea is that it’s much cheaper than grass: i.e. they don’t need to have water trucks watering it to maintain it when it’s first laid down and it’s much cheaper to buy in large quantities

They dowel into the concrete. Yes, they termite weld the track together anyways. They did something similar on 87 ave, just to test I would guess. Icoset (the rubber) is used on all embedded track installation.

No, the city usually doesn’t archive most things. For example the never archive their mid season and year end construction updates, for some reason?

16.2% was only up until March 2024, so that would be only ~22 months as construction didn’t “officially” start until end of may 2022. And yes I don’t count “pre construction” as actual construction. Maybe I’m wrong but I still don’t see how it’s 2 years behind schedule, but I guess I’ll wait...

I’m just curious as to what the “major delays are”? Even the cracked piers didn’t set back the valley line by over 2 years, so I don’t understand what it could be?

I’m curious to see if they release some sort of rationale behind this estimate. From my perspective progress seems to be moving along somewhat on schedule. Even Transed, with all their construction delays, still managed to finish the actual construction of the valley line by the end of 2021 (5...

    Capital Line LRT

It reminds me of the Ontario line; it went from ~10 billion to ~ 17 billion to then a massive $27.2 billion, the last increase occurred over a year and a half span. It’s not just Edmonton or LRT projects, every construction project is becoming more and more expensive.

Work on Lewis farms stop and the area around it is progressing well. The tracks bed is being dug out and station piles have been completed. Guideway is ready for gantry to start work west of WEM station.
