    Station Pointe | ?m | ?s

Not necessarily Station Pointe, but kitty corner to it, the old Burger Baron at Fort Road and 129th is coming down today. Really hope they save the awesome sign there for the museum.

    Municipal Politics

I don’t think you can use “affordability pressures” as a justification for not paying people what they’re due. Are CSU members not Edmontonians also facing those same pressures, especially with years of inflation and zero raises?

Ortona Armoury Arts Building Rehabilitation | ?m | 2s | City of Edmonton

David Johnston, city heritage planner, said turn over is in late April apparently. The question was brought up in a recent Edmonton Historical Board meeting. I don't have the timestamp but it's in the livestream here somewhere: https://www.youtube.com/live/YROnNJJ-iCU?si=X43YT1aLxs8qhPzY

Urban National Park Option for the River Valley

This should probably all be moved to the proper thread, but for the purposes of keeping the discussion here for now, a private members bill was proposed by Brandon Lunty of Leduc. Basically just more stupid victim-complex bs from the clowns in government. Per his address: I know it's alot to...

    Metro Line LRT | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Yep, about my guess too. It's hard to say exactly given all the construction and trying to navigate around it, but somewhere in the ten to fifteen minute range sounds about right depending on how fast a walker you are.

I could've sworn there was a thread for this development, but I couldn't find it. Located at 13815 109th Avenue: And a smaller fourplex in Inglewood at 12306 112th Avenue:

Here's some photos from today, including close-ups of the new NAIT/Blatchford Market Station. I hadn't realized that the multi-use trail took you right onto the station's platform, and instead of sending me back the way I came, a construction worker allowed me to pass through to NAIT. The whole...

    Yellowhead Trail Upgrades

It’s an interesting thing. The area was still reeling over the closure of Gainers and Canada Packers in the early 2000s, and had a glut of vacant storefronts. Business-owners were hoping that more parking and wider sidewalks would encourage patronage. One report from the Journal in 2002 wrote...

^^ You could apply that to plenty of our most ‘worthy’ heritage buildings. “Chicago School? Take a trip to the core district of Chicago and you can see the McLeod Building repeated 1,000 times over. Unique for Edmonton? More like out of place in Edmonton.” Yeah, so what? We’re a colonial...

    Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Yeah, the current (or former, I guess) Stony Plain Road Bridge was surprisingly old. I never paid it much mind, just thinking it was from the '60s or something. However, it turns out work on the crossing started in 1953 in preparation for the construction of Groat Road. A simple ravine-fill...

^And you'd be right, the old Stovel Block. Glass Bookshop had plans to take over the ground floor at one point, but now that they've moved to a new home in Ritchie, I wonder if that's still going through?

The Morris is original, if barely. A brick wall fronting the ING Building plaza gives a hint to its true age. Unfortunately, the building's facade was in an extremely poor state prior to its conversion, and the developer's resurfaced it with a veneer. Personally, I think they butchered it and...

    Stadium LRT Station Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton | GEC

I didn't see it mentioned, but benches and tables created by artists Michelle Campos Castillo, Becca Taylor, Christina Battle, Tiffany Shaw, and Shawn Tse have been installed in the new plaza fronting the west platform.

The Mite Block wasn’t stucco, it was brick and decorative terracotta. The original Mite was demolished in 1960. Earl Danard, owner of the Great North West Pioneer Village — something of a proto-Fort Edmonton Park located near Stony Plain — made a last minute attempt to save it, but found its...
