    Alberta Politics

Alberta conservatives have always been eager to sneak in more private care one way or another and really this is just another, the latest, ploy. I feel where this will fall apart is how it generally does. First, public opinion realizes that it means better care only for those who can pay for...

    Miscellaneous

Yes, the default to tearing something with historical significance should probably generally be no, with only exceptional circumstances. It is not like we have a huge number of such properties and there are many alternative sites.

    Miscellaneous

I feel the style of buildings there has more to do with the money available to spend on them and the fact that companies generally put more effort into their head offices. At some point Edmonton became content with just being a branch plant city and with that comes branch plant offices and...

    Pedestal Clocks

Well we have a brand new park downtown that could use a nice center piece or feature like this.

    LRT Safety

Yes, you can not and should not restrict a system that has many so access points and is used by other people than transit riders too. I often go through the tunnels and pedways to also go to places downtown and do not find the stairwells or hallways as bad or as scary as some seem to. Yes...

    Tower 101 | 175m | 50s | Regency Developments | DER + Associates

Yes, that is a good point. I feel Jasper Ave used to be more like the former years ago, but it has become more like the latter. However, we really don't have any strong retail street(s) downtown any more, maybe the closest is the one block of 104 Street north of Jasper Ave.

Edmonton City Centre Mall (Renovations) | ?m | 2s | LaSalle Investment Management

I am surprised too because this area is busier with the LRT running now. I feel that the financial situation with the mall may be one of the main things that has slowed things down here.

    Stollery Children's Hospital

A lot can happen in 8 to 10 years. I do feel this will be built eventually but in a different/better location.

I have no issue with either of those here. The places I went to were major national/international retailers with various price points, but I think lower than the two here and also there were many of them, not just two. For visitors going to Montreal, downtown is a destination because it has...

    Federal Politics

Also importantly included in the PM's statement is: These projects will only be built in consultation and partnership with Indigenous rights-holders and British Columbia. So this is more of a pathway or plan, rather than just a green light.

104st funicular - student concept - think outside of the box

I agree with the steep part and that they are much nicer than 103 Street, so I also use the stairs regularly actually often in the evening. Like elsewhere downtown, I do sometimes see people hanging out, although usually not causing problems and leaving enough room to get by, so I feel that is...

    Downtown Real Estate

With the constrained space because of the road/sidewalk and the two buildings north of it, I don't see a lot of room to build here and right next to the busy road is not that appealing anyways. So unfortunately I feel this could become yet another empty lot in this area, which already seems...

    The Augustana | 96m | 30s | Pangman | DIALOG

Yes, I think that was where many people in this area went to and now it is gone. Snap was on 109 St briefly, but I feel the no frills approach was not best for this area and that was also before World Health/Crunch closed.

    Tower 101 | 175m | 50s | Regency Developments | DER + Associates

Of course, the very first important difference is Montreal is 3x the size of Edmonton. However, also just compare St. Catherine's street in downtown Montreal which remains a vibrant retail shopping destination to Jasper Ave. When I went to Montreal in the early fall, I actually bought some...

    O-day’min Park (formerly Warehouse Park)

A park is a place with some trees, a place with a lot of trees is a forest. Also, because this is a brand new park, the trees are small now, it is not the number of them that is so small. As the trees get bigger, more can be done with lighting, but to have a space like this with a lot of trees...

    LRT Safety

In order for our pedway system to be of any use or benefit, it needs to remain somewhat open and accessible. You can not turn it into a post security area of an airport like what has been done with some government buildings. So I really doubt this general zero tolerance approach, which hasn't...

    LRT Safety

I am skeptical about such studies too, maybe different time, different place, different issues. Whatever has been done so far does not seem to be making enough of a dent in the problems, so perhaps time to stop dithering about this.

    Tower 101 | 175m | 50s | Regency Developments | DER + Associates

Perhaps, but surely someone who has some vision and more resources can afford the price. It does not seem that high. Potential is like an undeveloped lot in a high profile location, it is great but something needs to happen with it eventually to be realized otherwise it is not worth a lot.

    The Augustana | 96m | 30s | Pangman | DIALOG

With more people returning to work in the office in this area, perhaps it will be more successful now.

    LRT Safety

That chart is really not good. It looks like we started in a similar place to Calgary and Toronto, but it increased a lot more here and hasn't come back down much. Also worse here than Vancouver and Winnipeg. Something is wrong here that still needs a lot more effort and attention to deal...
