124 Street BIA / Westmount General Discussion

The Ghermezians would never have butchered up the mall into the sad state it is in today. They sold the mall around 1990 to a company that owned multiple malls which did a copy-paste renovation to all their malls making them look the same.

    LRT Expansion Planning

LRTs going down freeways won't encourage people to use it. Why bother when you can drive.

Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

Extending west wont happen for a long time yet. Zig zagging a line is not the way to go when planning transit. You can choose a station for one of them, not both. If you want an lrt line to river Cree make it part of a separate line going around the city.

Valley Line LRT | TransEd/Marigold | City of Edmonton

I dont think there is any need for an lrt stop at river cree. The reaort can operate a shuttle bus to lewis farms rec centre giving the hotel a link to the rest of the city. I think lrt should keep heading west from the rec centre towards spruce grove.

    Blatchford

I checked out the area around Lewis Estates rec centre and was shocked at how built up it has become. The rec centre is massive as well. They use standard sidewalks throughout and no one is complaining. Check out the traffic circle compared to Blatchford. That costs a fraction of what they spent...

    Blatchford

By the time Blatchford is built out the sidewalk will have to be renewed. They should have built it to standard specifications first, then widen it when the area is finally built up.

    Blatchford

You want gold covered sidewalks, I want gold covered buildings.

    Blatchford

I also noticed how ridiculously wide some of the sidewalks are, some are so wide they make 132 Ave. look good. The spacing from opposite buildings across the street from each other could have been reduced by as much as 50% Check out the link: Typical Blatchford sidewalks you will notice 2 random...

    Rethinking the Entrances to Edmonton

Entrance gimmicks are a sign of desperation, who wants to see the world's largest paperclip?

    Blatchford

The pond in Blatchford looks disgusting with all the algae in it, who wants to live in front of that? Thommyjo, I walked up that road yesterday and debated on whether I should continue and climb up the hill, I decided that it was not worth the risk of getting in trouble. Overall, development at...

It doesn't help if the last 2 photos taken were of the part that faces an alley.

    Gibson Block

I would consider Gibson Block to be one of Edmonton's "ambassador buildings". My definition for "ambassador building" are buildings that are known outside of their town/city. Other buildings include WEM, Legislature, HLB and Walterdale bridges, City Hall, Rogers Place, Muttart Conservatory and...

    Gibson Block

    Gibson Block

The foot dragging on their part needs to stop, find a building and move.

    Ewwwww don't touch me! lol

    The Quarters

Over the last 4 years we have seen the homeless panhandle in areas they never did before. Overall it is not a good thing but the silver lining in it is that it forces non-homeless people to get along with the homeless instead of running away. Like it or not, we need that exposure.
  17. I

    The Quarters

They are concentrating them in an area during the day time. The navigation centre is being moved close to where the homeless concentrate at night. Now the concentration will be there day and night creating another 24h dead zone, they should be integrating them back into society by decentralizing...

    Gibson Block

The city needs to tear up that lease and allow ground floor businesses to operate. The city should not be stabbing themselves with counterproductive leases.

    The Quarters

They are concentrating services for the homeless, not a good idea.

Houselessness in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region

So that is where the Navigation and support centre is…. being placed in the Quarters as well. I thought we were trying to reduce the concentration of agencies in the area supporting the homeless.
