    Downtown

Well, I'm into one of those things.

    Downtown

One of those places I rooted for, but couldn't really justify going to on a regular basis. I'm too good at Italian cooking.

Or even one car that infrequently drives, three bicycles and tools relating to hobbies, crafts and DIY stuff.

Yeah, I can see how they would do better if they were surrounded by single detached houses instead of better townhouses with legal secondary suites.

Of all of the criticisms one could level against Blatchford, "hasty" is the exact opposite of how things actually happened. Planning started well over a decade ago. Nor is it suburban nor "just for the heck of it" in the sense that keeping it brownfield in hopes that some other use emerged for...

    Downtown

With the less freezing weather, the other half and I decided to take the train downtown, have a winter patio dinner, then head over to City Hall to hit the ice for a bit. Most times of year, Churchill Square isn't exactly my favourite place to linger, but in mid-winter I'll make an exception...

At least with Stratosphere, they're rentals. NX's at least have their backs looking out over a courtyard rather than an alleyway, even if the distances are close. The Streetside ones remind me a lot of a condo I lived in in Abbottsfield years ago, except with enclosed garages rather than a car port.

Why would a notional at best project that's unlikely to turn into anything tangible within the next 20 years justify putting the "brakes" on Blatchford?

Well, there's definitely an immense heap of fill out that way. Some will likely be redistributed, but it could easily become the backbone of a "feature hill". It's popular among the local coyote population. I guess they can keep watch over much of the neighbourhood from up there.

Oh yes. I spend a lot of time looking at the back end of the Edmonton Inn. And I also went to a conference at the Chateau Louis in the pre-COVID times when it was already definitely quite long in the tooth.

Well, it does bring an option previously missing and this could be a good layout for seniors who don't want to go up and down stairs all of the time (side note: the stairs climbed data on my smart watch goes went through the roof when I moved in). It'll be more readily adaptable to those with...

I appreciate the way that this throws so much very deserved shade at the hotels that are already here.

The reminder of how land development actually works was definitely called for, especially that yes even greenfield development has a planning phase that can be years before building. The map of what's sold has a rather prominent surprise to me: a second 4-6 mixed use is sold.

    General Food & Dining Thread

While Double Greeting remains a favourite of mine (I lived in the weird little house right next to Wong's Benevolent Association for 6 years after all), they don't seem to offer dim sum service. In between tends to be "high quality local coffee prices or worse but without the high quality local...

Meanwhile Air Canada's 737 Max-8 are all being shuffled to Air Canada Rogue, so interesting shuffles are afoot across the board.

And Good Earth always was a bit underwhelming. When I did go to them, it was usually because of location.

Went there with the other half before a concert at MacEwan back when playoff stuff was in full swing. They definitely got a lot of points for effort for their patio given that they're in an old rail-oriented warehouse on 109 street. And yes, I do not tolerate non-carbonara carbonara.

The legacy of the Rat Creek Rebellion weighs heavily. No la-dee-da Strathconian is taking my land office, dagnabbit.

Both Streetside and NX developments at Fane Mews/Road are Condo per Blatchford's map. NX units are three bedroom per their blueprints, and when we toured their show unit it was certainly presented that way. The show unit also had a pretty generous basement space that's not on the blueprints and...
