Edmonton Companies News & Discussion

Well that's positive, but much work to do.

Calgary = 29,824/221 = 135

Edmonton 8,462/136 = 62

This is very good news. Interesting how we have stealthily considerably surpassed the previous 2015 high levels while Calgary has only got back to around them.

I suspect some of the companies in Edmonton are smaller, so do not get as much media attention and of course Edmonton in general gets less media attention too.

I hope we can continue to have this strong growth and some or more of it will be downtown where it is particularly needed.

Only reason I found about it was a CBC Calgary article talking about how amazing and great Calgary's job scene was with their head office employment, only to find out it's only rebounded to 2015 levels.

Got curious how Edmonton fared expecting much worse, but we've gone past 2015 levels with practically no media coverage.

Take that YYC “Fintech!” Lol

It does sound like there is a significant chunk coming for this region and that both YEG and the Garrison should see some significant benefit from upcoming announcements.
Cold Lake and Wainwright as well. But we forget Suffield will see at least 700 mil. Cold Lake is a couple of billion to support the next Generation fighters.

If Canada ends up with two fighters -- 30 F-35s and 70+ Gripens, not to mention complementary aircraft including Helicopters, I could see major expansion of Cold Lake Air Base, Wainwright Army Base (some Gripens and Helicopters) and YEG in support roles. I could see Bombardier wanting to expand -- especially in a service role -- into Central Alberta. As Canada's most northern major City Edmonton is the logical command centre for Arctic surveillance. Subsidiary roles could go to places like Yellowknife, Whitehorse, Churchill Iqaluit, and Gander.

The CFB Cold Lake expansion is confirmed already, not sure about Wainwright or Suffield. Arctic monitoring makes sense to be directly in the Arctic (likely Yellowknife) because Edmonton's distance from the Arctic is already substantial enough that the difference between operating from here and Ottawa (for example) is negligible.

Agreed on the rest.
