Yellowhead Trail Upgrades

I would just close the intersection entirely, and build a pedestrian bridge over the Yellowhead. Fort Road and 50 street already provide enough vehicular access to the area.

I don't think there needs to be another active transportation connection here. There's already a SUP along the LRT line.

It's part of the YHT active transportation corridor which runs largely on the south side of YHT from 142 St to 50 St, except for the short section between Fort Road where it crosses over to the north side of YHT via 125 Ave. If they don't want to build the 66 St connection at this time (missing link in solid red), they should retain the south sidewalk between Fort Rd and 66 St, convert it to a shared use path, and add a way for people to cross Fort Road at YHT maybe with a pedestrian signal (dashed below)

Not sure if someone on here has a "Little Orphan Annie Decoder Ring" to decipher how the City will finish this in "2 years," yet nothing has been done at 66th St.

They’re no longer building a bridge at 66 Street. It’s going to be closed in a similar way to how 89 Street or 149 Street intersections were closed. Essentially just remove the traffic lights and put up some concrete barriers. Not a lot to it.

Just to add some context, they list this as an interim solution. So expect at some point down the road a discussion about funding the overpass—whether it be this coming budget cycle, or 15 years from now.

That’s what the city says now, but I doubt it’ll ever get built. Fort Road and 50th are close enough. I doubt there will ever be the political appetite to spend the money on an overpass once the intersection has been closed for a decade or more and new traffic patterns establish themselves. There will be other projects fighting for that capital, and the longer we wait, the more expensive it will get.
