Alberta Politics

Braid is no longer on board with Danielle Smith's approach to U.S.-Canada "relations": https://calgaryherald.com/news/braid-smiths-cosy-ties-in-u-s-wrecked-poilievre-campaign-opening

In Canada’s current mood, Smith seems far too cosy with the adversary. Saying our national government should be in lockstep with Trump’s “new direction” could hardly be more tone-deaf.

Now she’s widely condemned on social media as a traitor to Canada. This isn’t the look Albertans deserve from their premier.

Earlier in this monumental conflict with Trump, I’ve supported Smith’s lobbying efforts in the States. No more. Her advocacy has shaded into political meddling.

What’s with Smitty and these faucets? Jk…what’s with Smitty and her “fireside” chats?! I would so be thrown out of there by her wanna be goons for heckling her so loud she’d have to call the cops on me!

Further info on Her Nibs - so she is going to Florida at the taxpayers' expense?

She’s set to speak at a PragerU fundraising gala in Florida on Thursday, alongside famous podcaster Ben Shapiro.

PragerU produces conservative education material used in Florida schools. Shapiro’s podcasts stoke fury at the left and support Elon Musk, although Shapiro is against Trump’s tariffs on Canada.

Smith will take this trip at government expense, arguing once again that she’s making the case against tariffs.

No premier should be so engaged with the people around a president who wants to take over Canada.

I really doubt she wants to clarify sedition or treason, as she often does she will just gaslight us and completely deny it.
With only 52% of the population vote in the 2023 election, Smith does not have the mandate to sell Albertans out to the Trump led Republican Party in the USA. She sure as hell does not speak for Canada. I think a massive Alberta and Canada wide petition should be launched telling her to stay in Alberta and shut the fuck up - the next Alberta election is 2.5 years away and the clock is ticking.

Alberta’s Next Election

Section 38.1 of the Election Act outlines when provincial general elections are held.

General election dates
38.1(1) Nothing in this section affects the powers of the Lieutenant Governor, including the power to dissolve the Legislature, in His Majesty’s name, when the Lieutenant Governor sees fit.
(2) Subject to subsection (1), election day for a general election shall be the third Monday in October in the 4th calendar year following the election day of the most recent general election.

According to this section, the next provincial general election is scheduled for October 18, 2027.

Maybe it's because I'm an immigrant from a formerly communist country, but I find voter turnout in Canada to be really disappointing.
We do sometimes take it for granted, but we don't always have good choices and it sometimes seems like the same party always wins.

Here in Alberta until a decade ago we had the same party in power provincially for over 40 years.
