Aaah yes… :( But at least it matches the new lobby palette with “a little bit of this and a little bit of that over here and a little bit of something else or three over there and oooh! we have to find a spot for this somewhere…”.

You could start with their pigheaded foolishness in refusing to implement a Harmonized Sales Tax. Then you could move on to lowering corporate and personal income taxes when there was no need to do either. Then you could look at the costs of the past and pending coal lawsuits, cancelling...

$23.9 billion in forecasted deficits over the next three years!

    Blatchford

^ I believe those are projected current year expenses and projected current year revenues. Those are not total expenses incurred to date and total revenues received to date and it’s those numbers that will show how much the city is currently in deficit on this self-funding project.

    Blatchford

^ So pretty much what I said in more detail. Whether the city is spending general revenue or spending money they have to borrow until project revenues - hopefully - repay them some day, the city is continuing to front end Blatchford's project costs, not self-funding those costs through project...

Perhaps DBA could put a proposal in for sidewalk snow removal under "placemaking and beautification"?

^ A bunch of long term funding commitments - some of which will be recycled for the umpteenth time - and most of which will be have severe limitations and/or restrictions attached that will extend well past this budget year so they can be readily clawed back. :(

The new St. Paul’s hospital in Vancouver will have about 550 beds and is currently budgeted at a little over $2 Billion. That doesn’t include the costs of anything other than the hospital in the overall “health district campus” it’s being built in. I don’t think that includes the $850 million...

    Blatchford

I don’t think that’s entirely correct… While the project is intended to be “self-funded”, that’s over the life of the project, not on an “as you go” basis and that includes the District Energy construction. We won’t really know until the end of the project how well it will have gone. In the...

    Harbin Gate

^ Or… they could put it over the multi-use path as it approaches 97th street at the south end of “new Chinatown”.

^ There is a gate in Louise McKinney park already that serves as an entrance to the Chinese Garden:

The Edmonton Method - Snow Removal

Just because the result doesn't fully align with your expectations doesn't mean those you were talking to "didn't get it". Those you were talking to are constrained by city directions and policies set by council and that's the job they're paid to do. What you're talking about is a change in...

^ We also shouldn’t forget that for two years the City concurrently shut down one direction of Jasper Avenue for the summer construction season to repair the Convention Centre roof… and then there were the Jasper Avenue New Vision closures and block after block of sidewalk and lane closures for...

I'm not sure it was flight to the suburbs, safety issues and more homeless people as much as it was the City closing 102 Avenue at the end of 2017 to start LRT construction,(something not much different to what the original LRT construction did to Jasper Avenue) and from which Jasper Avenue has...

    General Infill Discussion

There’s a very big difference between being scared of change - as you chose to phrase it - and being opposed to certain types and forms of change.
