    I love increasing density and I'm glad council voted down some of the recent attempts to scale back zoning, but in that photo, I can understand why people who've loved with their neighbourhood a certain way for 20, 30, or 40 years would be scared of change.

    Yes the BC Liberals instituted the fare gates and Metro Vancouver was more than happy to let them take it on. The province acted when the SkyTrain was derided as the CrimeTrain. Fare gates and a dedicated transit police force helped turn that impression around.

    When I was young, my parents bought in the brand new community of Castle Downs (or Castledowns, it was spelled two ways back then) and a number of the roads were gravel and 2-lane. Back then the 20-minute drive seemed too far for Edmonton.

    On the face of it, that makes sense. I mean, I would say most (more than half) homeowners take pride in the way their home looks and no one wants to live in an ugly or bland neighbourhood if you can afford otherwise.
