    Downtown Real Estate

Fair point, but I'm not 100% sure this is backed up by the data. In 1997, the city launched the Capital City Downtown Plan, offering $4.5M in subsidies for the 1,000 units built downtown. The downtown neighbourhood profile shows that after years of stagnation, the population downtown went...

Edmonton's population is booming, where are all the new proposals?

There are other poison pills in Vancouver too, including sewage and power requirements for laneway homes. Front-back duplexes (at about $1.3M each) are the most common infill in Vancouver at this point, other than 6-storey buildings on major corridors.

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

The city has redesigned its tableau showing cyclist and pedestrian counts. Somewhat easier to use, imo. It shows a healthy increase in the number of cyclists in February. Link to the tableau

    Edmonton Real Estate Market

The city has put up an interesting tableau on affordable housing in Edmonton, plenty of data.

    LRT Safety

I was just thinking about the comparison with Vancouver. Could it just be that the entrances are too narrow/small in Edmonton, therefore they concentrate the undesirable behaviour in a tight space that is almost impossible to get around? When I use Broadway/Commercial in Vancouver, the busiest...

    Blatchford Development | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Two rezoning applications at Blatchford are going to public hearing March 11 essentially to allow more row housing to go in. Development is moving closer to the old terminal building.

    Downtown Crime

In fairness, it was an outside observer who made the comment, not the police

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Overbuilding is as much of a risk as being under ambitious. See Prince George airport in 2009. They expanded their runway to 11,400 feet for flights that never came. https://www.princegeorgecitizen.com/highlights/prince-george-airport-runway-nearing-end-of-its-lifespan-6675136 While the cargo...

    Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Not that I really want to re-ignite the debate, but is the traffic lane necessary through that stretch of 108 St? I don't get through there very often, so there's probably some factor I'm missing.

    Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

I noticed two things from the excellent research: 1) the large increase in people living around stations in central Edmonton, far outstripping the growth of the city overall and 2) that the city should be automatically up zoning the areas around the stations. That's what the BC government has...

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

Tom at Shifter did an interesting video on Paris' cycle infrastructure transformation. There are lessons here for every North American city, including Edmonton.

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Before anyone gets too excited about an additional runway, that is still decades away, according to the master plan: "The existing runway system provides sufficient capacity for the planning horizon of the Master Plan 2048. A parallel runway continues to be identified beyond the planning...

ETS Bus and General Transit Improvements

Doubling frequencies on the 747 service would also go a long way to solving that problem.

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Having ridden the route many times with bags, there are 3 far cheaper improvements that would help tomorrow: - A better waiting area at YEG (I don't see why YEG couldn't invest in this) - Better frequency, especially off-peak (but doubling frequency all day would be helpful) - A much better stop...

    Alberta Politics

Though there's no requirement in law, Parliamentary tradition and responsible government demand that anyone appointed to the Cabinet seek a seat at the earliest opportunity.

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

It's mentioned in the news release in post 2,291 with MCO and PHX called "summer extensions."

    U of A real estate

True, except UBC is even moreso - it's not in the city of Vancouver, doesn't have city police (RCMP patrol the campus and endowment lands) and the local elected representative sits on the regional government.

    General Infill Discussion

Plenty of interesting infill projects coming to council's next public hearing on February 20th: Redeveloping the remaining military barracks in Griesbach Four-storey buildings on two vacant lots in Alberta Avenue A four-storey building in McKernan A new tower at 103 Ave and 123 St in Oliver (or...

    Terwillegar Drive Expansion

The nice thing about the ARC card is that ETS doesn't have to hire people to count people riding the bus (my brother used to do that) and wait for their report to see how routes are performing. The feedback is pretty much instantaneous.
