Anyone know if that's actually the main reason?
Energy code requirements are more complex than just window size. They are based on R-values (or the inverse = U-value; R-value is a measure of thermal heat flow Resistance). For windows, the greater the fenestration area the lower the R-value through the wall that contains the window. What elements can improve the R-Value? -- Glad you asked! If the window is double-paned the R-Value goes up; if it is triple-paned it goes up even more. If one of the panes is low-e glass ^^^; if one of the panes is fire resistive ^^^. If the adjacent wall has an R-value greater than code mandated ^^^ (typical through walls is "20" R-value); so if it is increased to R=30 ^^^; R=40 ^^^^^. Also if it is a sun-exposed wall then the R-value declines (south worst; west second worst; east third; north = not much bearing..
The long and short of this story is that if this developer (and others that shall remain nameless) have small windows it means that they are (in general) cheep-0s who want to build the least they can get away with tied to the most that they can charge for rent.

Someone's finally cleaning up the big pile of burned chunks that was the Iginla law building. Glad they're moving with a clean up because the fencing was really messing up our ability to cross the street safely on our bikes (not that we're biking at the moment, what with the return of February).

Has anyone heard anything about plans for the site?
