Edmonton Oilers

While it's probably not a surprise to see Jarry coming this way, it was initially a surprise to see Skinner going the other way. Having said that, after the initial surprise wore off, it looks like a vote of confidence in Ingram and the other young goalies in the system (deservedly so by all accounts) as well as in Pickard's ability to be a solid backup. All in all, probably a good trade at this end and at the other end as the Penguins get some experienced youth in Skinner vs Jarry noting that the Penguins are also quite deep in goal. Jarry gets a good shot at a cup and Skinner gets a clean start in a great city to live in where I wish him all the best (as frustrating as he could be to watch at times, he has been equally good at times and he has always been a good citizen and a good teammate).
They had to trade Skinner in order to make it work. He makes a lot more than Pickard.

Agreed although $2.6 million for Skinner vs $1 million for Pickard vs Jarry;s $5.375 million. Probably also the reason for moving Kulak at $2.750 million and bringing in Stastny at $825k. I think the fact that Jarry's contract still has term while both Skinner and Kulak's contracts are up at the end of this season probably also factored in.

Statistically NHL teams that spread their star-power centres across all 4 lines win more games than those that cluster them on two lines. That aside, there can be a stronger bond between players -- between centres and wingers when they are allowed (encouraged) to focus on playmaking with familiar team mates. Repeating myself, I think the Centres should be McDavid, Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins and Henrique. McD and Hyman are solid together -- I would move Kapanen to join them; I would leave the Draisaitl--Savoie--Podkolzin line intact (they seem to be the one line that is beginning to gel quite well); I would put Nugent-Hopkins together with Mangiapane and Roslovic; and Henrique could centre Tomasek and Lazar; floaters could be Janmark and Howard (returned from the farm). Power Play and Penalty Kill groupings are reasonably obvious.
