This is a Thread to discuss Stony Plain Road's Many issues
+ PoPo (foot / bike patrol)Here are some ideas on how to fix Stony Plain Road:
- The Jasper Place Hotel needs to be put out of our misery and demolished, then replaced with a midrise development that is similar to the West Block.
- Same deal needs to happen with that retail strip that once housed Revolution Cycle. However, they should somehow retain and evolve Revolution Square since it will be a tourist draw.
- That shopping centre with London Drugs can use some infill housing to replace some of their acres of parking lot.
- The XXX store near 156 St may be gone but there are still too many payday loan stores, pawn shops and rub & tugs along that stretch of Stony Plain Road. Some incentives to move them wouldn't be out of the question.
- More trees, more parks and more greenery please!
- A basketball court and a skate park wouldn't hurt.

I was talking to one of the staff at Revolution about it and he said a developer had plans to do a big mixed-used building on the shopping centre site at 149th, but not for another 10 years or so.

This won’t happen for forever. Riocan is delaying Toronto projects it proposed 20 years ago. I doubt Edmonton projects are even on their radar.![]()
RioCan Proposing Redevelopment of Jasper Gates | SkyriseEdmonton
RioCan is proposing to redevelop the Jasper Gates shopping centre into a transit-oriented development (TOD) with up to 1,000 residential units and 5,000 square-metres of retail space.edmonton.skyrisecities.com
And so many other sites available between 142-156. No land value compared to Toronto. What is their incentive to redevelop it at this point? Jasper Gates has two solid anchor tenants and overall very little vacancy despite the rest of SPR floundering.
