Alberta arts funding hits record high under UCP, government says
Alberta’s UCP government is increasing support for the arts with a $4.5 million boost to the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA).
Is that just because of population growth and inflation? I don't think this funding is actually keeping up with either. Their press releases tend to be rather self congratulatory and often miss such key things.![]()

Probably. But the numbers could be worse. Is that just because of population growth and inflation? I don't think this funding is actually keeping up with either. Their press releases tend to be rather self congratulatory and often miss such key things.
Honestly, if we allow partisan gatherings of any kind on the Legislature grounds, it's to be expected some won't be things you agree with. Barring extreme nonsense like antisemitism, people should be able to express their views.
The anti-LGBTQ+ views of the Christian right are extreme nonsense like antisemitism. It's a belief that certain groups of people shouldn't exist based on how they were born.Honestly, if we allow partisan gatherings of any kind on the Legislature grounds, it's to be expected some won't be things you agree with. Maybe so, and I certainly disagree with his politics, but this isn't an anti-LGBT rally. It's a concert. The anti-LGBTQ+ views of the Christian right are extreme nonsense like antisemitism. It's a belief that certain groups of people shouldn't exist based on how they were born.
Fine, but using that logic will a LGBT group be able to easily book and hold a concert here too? I feel our current government is picking and choosing who can use these spaces based on their preferences.Maybe so, and I certainly disagree with his politics, but this isn't an anti-LGBT rally. I might not agree with the ideology of a Soviet-era communist marching band, but I don't think that means they should be stopped from playing. The "it's us or them" idea contributes to a lot of modern radicalism by making discourse about correction of thought, rather than the exchange of ideas.
Obviously this isn't going to happen, but out of morbid curiosity I half want to see it pass.Instead of everyday concerns such as health care, education or the homeless, this is the Premier's highest priority
