Miscellaneous

Looks like the former HSBC building on Jasper is filling in that weird side plaza that has never been used that I could tell.

Just behind this...

"Around 1920, Walter Holowach came home from Vienna with a horse chestnut seed in his violin case and planted it in the family's downtown Edmonton yard."

Meant to post about this earlier. Paul Lanni of Averton Homes reached out to me a couple of weeks ago to clue me in to this neat little office & retail conversion in Oliver, on 122 Street just north of Stony Plain Road, that flew under the radar:

This is what it looked like before:

I forgot about this one - looks great! I believe the plan was for Averton to move into the 2nd floor. Is that still the case?

I honestly don't know if this is worthy of it's own thread at all given that the most recent proposal is about a decade or more old, but a permit was recently issued for the destruction of four heritage properties at the northwest corner of 104th street and 98th Avenue:

It was once supposed to be home to a monster known as the Omega 2.

Anyway's the four homes, all dating back to 1909, were apparently demolished as of two days ago. Does anyone know if anything's planned to replace them anytime soon? Here were three of them from last October:

I've walked by those houses many times and, as much I don't like seeing these old homes demolished, it was time for these ones to go. They looked in pretty rough shape and were likely beyond repair.

As for the land, tough plot to build anything on. The land has been for sale for years now. I would love to see something built here with some desperately need CRUs (this area is a dead zone for amenities), but I think we'll be waiting a long time before anything happens here
