The City of Edmonton celebrated the best of urban design in Edmonton last Friday night, at the 2019 Edmonton Urban Design Awards (EUDA) reception, where the winners of this year's competition were announced.
A total of eleven awards were handed out in seven categories; 58 projects in total were nominated.
The winners awarded at the gala were as follows:
Category: Urban Architecture
- Award of Excellence: Borden Park Natural Swimming Pool
- Award of Merit: The Edge
Category: Student Design
- Award of Excellence: The Village at Belvedere
Category: Civic Design
- Award of Excellence: Mechanized River Valley Access
Category: Community Projects
- Award of Excellence: Historic McKay Avenue School Playground
Category: Heritage Projects
- Award of Excellence: Tipton Investment Building
- Award of Excellence: Oliver Exchange
Category: Urban Design Plans
- Award of Merit: High Level Line
- Award of Merit: Alberta Avenue Renewal Urban Design Analysis and Preliminary Design
Category: Urban Fragments
- Award of Excellence: Carbon Copy
Category: People’s Choice (decided by the majority of the public’s 1,800 votes)
- Carbon Copy
Two honorable mentions were also recognized as part of the ceremony: ᐄᓃᐤ (ÎNÎW) River Lot 11∞ (the Indigenous Art Park), and the Cambridge Tunnel Rehabilitation at Central LRT Station for their unique designs.
The winners are also eligible for the 2020 National Urban Design Awards hosted by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.
