Two months since we last checked in at the site of the Augustana development by Pangman and DIALOG, and the 30-storey residential tower has now risen well above its multi-storey podium. Standing five stories above grade, it will not be long now before we can truly appreciate the full scope of the project.

Rising high at the corner of 107 St NW and 99 Ave NW in the heart of the Goverment District, close to the Legislature grounds, and just steps - or a quick LRT ride - away from the core, Augustana will soon be a prime address for urban professionals of all stripes. In fact, the 240-unit mixed-use tower will soon be home to upwards of 350 residents in addition to a host of retail owners and their employees.

Built upon the former site of the Lutheran Augustana Church, the tower of the same name represents an exciting, new phase for the area, the Government District now in the midst of an urban makeover. Taken as a whole, including the planned floor of street-level retail, Augustana will be boon for an area once known for little else than government offices and empty after-hours streets.

Once complete, Augustana will be a fine addition to the core, the development part of an ongoing effort to remake the Government District and its immediate surroundings into one cohesive piece of the downtown core.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
